About James

I graduated from the University of Westminster in 1999 with an honours degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture (TCM). I have been practicing in multidisciplinary clinics in the Kent and Sussex area since then. I am currently working in Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks. As well as acupuncture I practice massage, give advice on diet according to the Chinese Medicated Diet, and offer advice on lifestyle issues such as exercise and work life balance issues. I have, since the age of fifteen, had an interest in Buddhist studies and am a practicing Buddhist. I teach meditation to small groups and individuals as part of my acupuncture practice.

I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC). BAcC is the governing body for acupuncturists practicing Traditional Chinese medicine in the UK. Membership is conditional upon having completed at least three years training in traditional acupuncture and western medical sciences appropriate to the safe practice of acupuncture. BAcC maintains common standards of discipline, ethics, education and practice to ensure the safety and security of the public at all times. Members are covered by Medical Malpractice and Public/Products liability insurance.

The Daoist philosophy that underpins TCM offers a fascinating and different approach to the issues of health and illness. It has a greater emphasis on the concepts of wellness and wellbeing, and how these may be best achieved through an increased understanding of the relationship between our lifestyle and our experience of health. It stresses the importance of achieving harmonious balance in all aspects of our lives by firstly recognising and then taking care of the “three treasures”, our mind, body, and spirit.

Although trained as general acupuncturist I have, since graduating, taken a special interest in acupuncture for obstetric and gynaecological problems, particularly with regard to fertility issues in general and those relating to acupuncture and IVF. I have also trained in the pain relief technique known as “Battlefield Acupuncture”.
